他動詞で意味は
１、<人が><物・事>を（努力して・計画的に）得る、手に入れる　◆getよりも堅い語
２、<物・事が>O１<人>にO2<物・事>を得させる
自動詞で意味は
<習慣・法律などが>[場所で／人々に]適用する、行われている
obtainを使った英文
The thief must have obtained the key to the front door from the previous owner of the house.
(その泥棒はその家の前のオーナーから玄関の鍵を手に入れたに違いない。）
thief・・・泥棒
obtain・・・手に入れる
previous・・・前の

この英文には
must have done （～したに違いない）が使われています。
何かが起こったことが９９％間違いないという場合、must have doneをつかいます。
must have done ～したに違いない

例文
He got full marks on the exam. He must have studied hard.
