postpone / would rather

postpone
他動詞で意味は
１、延期する、延ばす
put offも同じ意味
２、・・・を[・・・の]後に置く、後回しにする

postponeを使った英文
The president of the firm would rather postpone the opening of its new branch.
(その会社の社長は新しい支店の開店をむしろ延期したい。）
firm・・・会社
postpone・・・延期する
opening・・・開店
branch・・・支店

would rather +原形　（むしろ～したい）
would rather +原形は「どちらかというと～したい」という希望を表す表現で「何かと比べて」というニュアンスを含みます。また、would ratherの否定文はwouldn't ratherではなくwould rather not doと特殊な形になります。
would rather do　むしろ～したい
would rather not do　むしろ～したくない

例文
I would rather stay home tonight.
（私は今晩むしろ家にいたい。）

I would rather not stay home tonight.
（私は今晩むしろ家にいたくない。）
